On Saturday, 22nd November, the WRTC2018 working group of RRDXA and BCC members met in Rheine near Münster for the second meeting.

Chairman Christian Janssen, DL1MGB, summarized the activities of the last months, particularly the successful application. The main topic of the meeting was the final decision on the WRTC qualification process, defining contests and category weights. As promised the final rules will be published by the end of November.

Other topics were financing, the foundation of the formal WRTC2018 organization, and marketing. Many details were discussed and new ideas were born, e.g. addressing youth contesting events as part of the WRTC2018 project.

On Sunday morning a small group explored the candidate region "Emsland" east of Lingen. The completely flat terrain offers a level playing field by its topography and will support a fair competition.

About WRTC2018

The World Radiosport Team Championship (WRTC) is held every four years and consists of 50+ two-person teams of amateur radio operators from around the world competing in a test of operating skill. Unlike most on-the-air competitions, all stations are required to use identical antennas in the same geographic region, eliminating all variables except operating ability.
Previous WRTCs have been held in Seattle/USA (1990), San Francisco/USA (1996), Slovenia (2000), Finland (2002), Brazil (2006), Russia (2010), and New England/USA (2014).
